Municipality of Fauquier-Strickland
The municipality of Fauquier-Strickland is a township located in Cochrane District in northeastern Ontario. It primarily includes the communities of Fauquier, Strickland, and Gregoires Mill, all situated along Highway 11 between Departure Lake and Moonbeam. The township was officially established on December 24, 1921 (originally under the names Shackleton and Machin), and adopted its current name in 1984 to reflect its two main communities. It covers approximately 1,013.25 km² and, as of the 2016 census, had 536 residents, giving it a very low population density of about 0.5 people per km². A large majority of the population is francophone (around 72 %), while about 25 % are anglophone. The municipal government is led by a township council headed by a reeve. Fauquier-Strickland provides standard municipal services: administration, public works, fire protection, zoning and planning, parks and recreation, waste collection, and maintenance of local roads. The municipality encourages citizen engagement by making meeting minutes, bylaws, and agendas publicly accessible through an online municipal portal.
