About La Maison Verte
La Maison Verte (LMV) is a non-profit organization based in Hearst, Ontario, focused on horticultural production, the sale of plants and vegetables, and supporting local community initiatives. It was founded in 1982 by the Association Parmis-Elles, a women’s group aiming to create economic opportunities for women and promote their well-being. Initially, LMV produced seedlings for reforestation. Over time, it diversified its activities: now it cultivates and distributes tomatoes and cucumbers, maintains a vegetable garden, and offers vegetable share programs for individuals. Surplus produce is sold through the LMV shop or distributed to businesses and restaurants in northeastern Ontario, including Kapuskasing, Moonbeam, Mattice, and more. LMV’s greenhouses and gardens also offer horticultural products such as trees, shrubs, perennials, garden décor, gift items, and gardening supplies. As such, La Maison Verte plays a significant role in the local economy, food security, sustainable development, and fostering connections among agriculture, the environment, and the community.
