Town of Smooth Rock Falls
About Town of Smooth Rock Falls
Smooth Rock Falls is a single-tier town in the Cochrane District of Ontario. It presents itself as a bilingual, welcoming, and diverse community that encourages business growth and new residents. Its motto is “The North’s Biggest Little Town.” The town’s economy historically centered around the forestry sector, including the Tembec Malette pulp mill whose shutdown was a significant economic event for the region. Since then, the municipality has been active in economic redevelopment, converting former industrial sites into zones for new enterprises. Smooth Rock Falls leverages its natural surroundings and recreational assets: the Mattagami River, trails for snowmobiling and ATVing, fishing, a golf course, and other seasonal outdoor activities form part of the town’s lifestyle appeal.
