About Municipality of Moonbeam
The municipality of Moonbeam (the Township of Moonbeam) is a single-tier municipality in the Cochrane District of Northeastern Ontario. It is governed by a municipal council and a mayor (currently Luc Léonard), responsible for local services such as roads, water and sewer, parks, zoning, economic development, and community programming. Moonbeam covers about 235.58 km². As of 2016, its population was 1,231, giving a population density of around 5.2 people per square kilometer. Most residents speak French as their first or main language. Moonbeam is also known for its iconic roadside flying saucer attraction, reflecting the mysterious “moonbeam” motif in its name. The municipality lies along Highway 11 east of Kapuskasing and is adjacent to René Brunelle Provincial Park, which overlaps part of its territory near Remi Lake.
