Chamber Story

The Northern Corridor Chamber of Commerce, formerly known as the Kapuskasing and District Chamber of Commerce, has been a pillar of business leadership in Northeastern Ontario since its inception. Founded in 1960 and incorporated in 1962, the Chamber was established by a group of forward-thinking local business leaders determined to shape a stronger, more unified economic future for the region.

After decades of serving the Kapuskasing area and building strong municipal and business partnerships along the Highway 11 corridor, the Chamber took a significant step forward. In May of 2023, it officially began operating as the Northern Corridor Chamber of Commerce, reflecting its expanded regional mandate and commitment to supporting a broader network of communities and enterprises.

A Legacy of Resilience and Leadership

Over the years, the Chamber has successfully navigated waves of economic change and business development, from industrial booms and downturns to the growth of tourism, retail, and service industries. Through it all, the Chamber has remained an anchor for businesses in the region.

Leadership has come from many dedicated directors, including some of the area’s most influential business owners, who have guided the Chamber with vision and purpose. Their collective efforts have helped shape a resilient, dynamic organization that continues to evolve alongside the needs of its members.

Regional Reach and Community Impact

While its roots are in Kapuskasing, the Chamber's focus has steadily expanded to include Highway 11 municipalities and surrounding areas, reflecting the interconnected nature of commerce across Northeastern Ontario. This regional approach has strengthened the Chamber’s ability to advocate for infrastructure, economic development, and workforce support across multiple communities.

Enduring Partnerships, Shared Prosperity

A key strength of the Chamber lies in its ability to build and maintain meaningful partnerships—with municipal governments, Indigenous communities, economic development bodies, educational institutions, and local businesses. These collaborations have produced impactful initiatives and long-term successes, enhancing the quality of life and opportunity in the North.
